Camp News: The Little Publisher

This morning, Thorncroft alumni Dana Hurley returned so that our campers could experience her vision of children enjoying an out-of-the-classroom, hands on, engaging experience of creating their own books.

The group of kids gathered in the shed this morning with their glue, blank cardboard pages, paint, and pencils. Their first task was to design their books, and within a half-hour, each child had put their own unique stamp on what was once the generic material. Dana talked to them about journaling their experiences at Thorncroft, and their minds went to work once again. As the time passed, the cardboard, glue, and pencils became individual stories and pictures of each child's perspective on their Thorncroft experience. The kids each all enjoyed the opportunity to put their books together and express their thoughts and ideas in such a unique way.

In some cases, Dana collects the books, and will publish them, or incorporate them into their in-store library at "The Little Publisher". They are located at 324 E. King Street in Malvern, and have walk in services including Story Writing, Journaling, and Photo Album services from 9am to 7pm.
